Maria Zahedi

I am a Play Therapist and accredited member of the British Association of Play Therapists (BAPT). I completed an MA in Play Therapy at the University of Roehampton in 2020.

I work integratively utilising a wide range of play and creative arts techniques and employing a child-centred and primarily non-directive approach to adapt to the needs of the child, with the aim of alleviating chronic, mild and moderate psychological and emotional issues in children, which may be causing behavioural problems and preventing the child from reaching their full potential.

My clinical practice is informed by contemporary evidence-based research, including Attachment, Neuroscience and trauma-informed models of child development. I adhere to the BAPT standards, practice guidelines and ethical principles. I am also Mental Health First Aid trained.

I have previously worked as a Teaching Assistant and as a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant in mainstream schools and special educational schools and as a Support worker for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN). I have experience delivering play therapy in mainstream school and work currently in a Pupil Referral Unit, conducting face to face sessions with primary aged children and offering support to families. I have worked with children who have experienced trauma, domestic violence, abuse and neglect, parental separation, loss and bereavement; children with SEN or medical needs including Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, and Type 1 Diabetes; and Looked After Children.
